Already running a chat agent? ElevenLabs now lets you add voice without rebuilding from scratch.

Yesterday evening, ElevenLabs unveiled Speech Engine. The pitch is simple: if you already have a chat agent, you should not have to rebuild it to add voice. The new product wraps around what is already there.

ElevenLabs launch video for Speech Engine, May 20, 2026.

Under the hood, Speech Engine bundles speech synthesis, transcription, and voice orchestration. The agent itself stays put. The model, tool calls, and integrations remain untouched. On X, ElevenLabs showed what it looks like when voice is layered on. Developers install a skill with `npx skills add elevenlabs/skills --skill speech-engine`, and the company says one prompt should be enough to turn a chat agent into a voice agent. Voices ship in 70+ languages.
